278. PROTS Classroom; PROTS Group & Facebook..

PROTS CLASSROOM, PROTS Group & FaceBook.
Once in a while some hot topic comes up during class discussions and we wish we could share it with you.
Now that we have this blog facility it more easy to do just that.
We therefore dedicate this page to the long missed opportunity.
We will be publishing most of the hot topics that will come up during our class.
To share this with our students, graduates and the public in general we are using our PROTS Group in the Facebook facility. Most of the new generation find it easy to use Facebook than anything else and the response we are getting is just amazing and very encouraging.
Every Friday I will post a new topic that was hottest in class and you guys are invited to contribute your ideas.
Let the world know what you know!!

To have these valuable discussions in Facebook permanent, we will be publishing them here in our Blog in a more edited and well arranged way.

I therefore welcome you to contribute on Facebook and read all the discussions in our Blog.

Topic 3: "IMPRESSING THE FEMALES!"
Hello Guys, Once again we have another topic for this week-end and the week to follow. This time we look in system of "IMPRESSING FEMALES!" Men, or Males, so to speak, put a lot of energy and effort to impress females! The Jackson's Widowbird dances vigourously until it makes a ring in the grass, so do the Ostrich; the Topis dance until the Lekking ground is bare and the Maasai too! These are just a few examples. Please give us more examples and views as to why all the fuss!!
I almost forgot to thank you for the wonderful contributions of the last topics: The Flamingo - "Design & Architecture" and the "Kitanda Hakizai Haramu" of the Red-Chested Cuckoo!! Your examples were amazing meaning that WENGI MMEGUSWA KWA NAMNA MOJA AU NYINGINE!!! Karibuni Sana.
  • The Topis congregate in open grounds Arenas - Lekking Grounds. They dance as if there's No Tomorrow!! Until the ground is bare!!

  • FEMALES ARE HARD TO CATCH DUE TO THEIR GENETIC PROGRAMMING! THEIR NOT ALL THAT EASY. They have lots of exams to be winned if a male needs to reproduce. You are well being is their religion.[male genetic fitness must be fit and strong to be tested with females]For that reasons male invest alot of energy and efforts to impress females so their chance to reproduce to stand still. In nature everything has a reason.Even us human being we bud houses,we buy good cars all we so all these mainly to impress females nothing else.Everything we do for purpose. It is very expensive to prepare a wedding but who cares? All these are to impress females. How thisworld would be withou females? We enjoy their presence. They are everything to us! Let us win theit exams whatever they may be.Love you much Michael.

    • Daniel Nyamoga Nest Parasitism is a very common trait done by several Cuckoo species if not all of them.Different Cuckoo species parasite different birds like the Red Chested Cuckoo which has specialized on parasiting the Robin Chat.May be this is just a technique to try to avoid some Parental duties as perhaps a trick of not using even a little energy highly needed for some other performances in the natural world. This can be Mating because their number is very small, escaping from their predators or searching for their food. The timing is always precise hence everything has be perfectly done otherwise the whole exercise will be of a very poor results. The chance for their chicks to be successfully raised is super high and this is from the fact that they are far bigger that the chicks of the host. Then that is to say they monopolize almost everything from the poor mother which is food, love and affection. If that is how it is in the natural world then we have nothing to blame it.What I am trying to say here is that" It is may be very natural not to raise the family but what is very important is to pass the genes"as a man you can impregnate a woman and run away.Sio mimi jamani ni ecology hiyo!See you next time.Enjoy the comment!!!!

      Wednesday at 12:08pm ·
    • Daniel Nyamoga This is not only for the female creatures even male creatures sometimes suffer the same problem. There is a certain Jacana species that actually does the same. The African Jacana or you call it Lily trotter because it can walk on the lilies enabled by having very long toes, but I like to call it a Jesus bird do you know why?because it can walk on the water surface. In this particular species females do not cooperate in raising the chicks they simply lay eggs and quit then males have to look after the eggs and later on the chicks. It is believed that the number the females in their population is very small then laying the eggs,Looking after them and raising the chicks will just "eat"their time and may be other males will not have any chance to pass their genes which is very important in maintaining their species firmness or perhaps enjoying "the romantic pleasure"(as we all know).I like to call this life style "Bushoke's way of living"Hapa tutasemaje na wanaume nao wajifunze kutupa watoto chooni?See you next time!!!!

    • Vedasto Izoba I think Agness is more right. We have never been Flamingo before, but we can guess. If it developed long legs then it was because of wading in shallow waters, then it had to do some more modification to develop a long neck in order to reach the food made remote by the legs. Of course we are talking in Evolutionary times where things go together. What do you think guys? Try to use the Giraffe as a finished product and discuss its case. • Daniel Nyamoga There are six species of Flamingos in the World, just to mention them are;Greater and Lesser flamingos found in some parts of Africa,S.Europe and S.W Asia.James's and Andean found in High Andes in Peru,Chile,Bolivia and Argentina.Chilean flamingos found in S.America and the very last species is American flamingo found in Caribbean and Galapagos Islands. My focus is on the two species which are found in E.Africa.Lesser flamingos are herbivores feeding mainly on Blue Green Algae though if this is not in abundance then Diatoms can be part of their diet.Lesser flamingos look very pink and it is believed they gain that color from their food. What makes them very special is how unique their filtering mechanism when feeding. They use their tongues as pumping shafts, when moving them back water sucked in with the food, and when pushing them forward it gets pumped out with the algae caught in the tiny hairs located on sides of the mandibles and the third stroke takes the food and sucks more water in.Surprisingly, they make seventeen strokes per minute may be too fast for a Jet engine piston.

Izoba's Tough Times!
Out of curiosity I posted this photo with the caption that goes like:
"For those Who think Tour Guiding is about eating sausages!"
It drew amazing reactions from my graduates who were surprised as to how tough times I passed in order to get the current ripe status!
I thought I could save these congratulations and contribution in this Blog!
